Day 3: The Haole Hustle - Battle for 2nd Place

Nov 5, 2025
2 min read

Updated: Nov 5, 2025

Day 3 was full of promise for the 7 Haoles chasing wire-to-wire winner, Doyle Connolly. Only 6 shots separated 2nd place from 8th, and it would turn out to be a wild day both in term of the standings, and the trajectory of the 677 shots those seven Haoles would launch, chunk, dribble and roll over the day....

Coming into the round, the conversation was focused on, who is going low...? I learned so much yesterday..., this course is here for the taking...! It would seem many of these Haoles forgot who they were....

Let's start with Bonk. 14-shots behind Doyle and with a 3 shot lead on his nearest competitor for 2nd place, his day started watching Doyle almost hit it into the parking lot at number 1... Rather than seizing on the opportunity, he popped up a 67-yard drive into the waste area, and recorded his first of 5 straight double-bogeys. He struggled to a 104 net 96, and finished in 6th place at 251 total.

While Del and Mort hit some of the day's most spectacular shots - Del's 60 foot birdie putt on the 6th, and Mort's 330+ yard drive on 600 yard 13th come to mind. Both struggled to string together enough shots to make a charge. Del finished in 7th at 252, and Mort posted a Haole career-high 95 to come in 8th pace at 261.

While the 3 chasers in the final group faltered, the lead group took advantage and jumped up the leaderboard.

Led, by an 88/net 75, Billy turned in the low round of the day and 2nd lowest round of the tournament. Billy charged from 8th place to take home the runner-up money with a 244, 11-shots back of Doyle. Tagging along with his eldest son..., he also took his winnings to Chase Hoochie Mamma's at the Riu Palace!

2024 Champion Haole of the Year, Nolan Connolly, struggled on the greens in Cabo, but there were signs of the old Nolan on Day 3. While tortured by 3-putts, he still recorded 3-birdies on Saturday in a solid, almost great round of 85 and a 247 - three shots out of the runner up spot. In his post-round remarks. Nolan declared, I'll be back & healthy to reclaim my title in 2026!

Big Chief Haole TJ and GB also slid up the leaderboard with decent but unsatisfying rounds leaving them T-4th at 250.
